Meet the Bill Gates of Ghana

I am so pleased to know that this young Ghanaian entrepreneur - Herman Chinery-Hesse – is building a thriving tech business in Ghana. His goal to spark an entrepreneurial revolution in Africa deserves the highest respect possible. And it is not only about his e-commerce ideas, but more about his ability to prove that one can run successful and profitable business in West Africa.

As an international business developer, I know how important it is to bring innovative ideas to the African continent. Do you remember what Ford Model T did to the American economy? It connected businesses and households throughout the States and even created some new industries. Aside from e-commerce, Africa needs an innovative approach to its transportation challenge in order to help local economy grow. One good example of such innovation is Basic Utility Vehicle (BUV). One of the exciting things about this vehicle is the fact that it was developed from the ground up for the developing world.

The bottom line is: the developed countries should work in tandem with the developing world so that creative and innovative ideas like BUV could help local communities in Africa build profitable businesses and create jobs. Herman Chinery-Hesse is a wonderful example of such a tandem.

Our Mission

The Institute for Affordable Transportation is a not-for-profit public charity devoted to improving the lives of the world's poor by providing simple, low-cost vehicles in order to facilitate community transformation.
