Dr.
Batuku's Medical Clinic:
Dr.
Batuku runs the only medical clinic for 30 miles in any
direction. She
services nine villages from her central office. When emergencies arise, she asks permission to use one
of the village trucks. Delays
occur as the trucks are located (they are usually not idle),
unloaded, driven to the emergency. Time is critical in the majority of emergencies which include
poisonous snake bites, spider bites, scorpion stings or
premature births. Due to delays and poor roads, it
usually takes her over two hours to reach
the perimeter emergencies.
With
a BUV, Dr. Batuku could:
-
outfit
the vehicle as an ambulance
-
reach
the perimeter in an hour consistently
-
provide
treatment earlier and save lives
-
reduce
freight costs on medical supplies
from the district market
